Korea was a vassal state of China for almost five hundred years, during which Korea had endured poverty and starvation with practically no industries to generate income, which allowed Korean people to live for the average of 24 years (Korea was almost like North Korea still controlled by China).

Thus, a major exporting item available to Korea was “women” whereas Korea had the ruling class called “Yangban” that brutally ruled the people during Joseon Dynasty. Korea, if defined in simple terms, was “a savage tribal country” according to the international standard pravailing in those days.

As soon as Japan defeated China and Russia in 1895 and 1905 respectively, Korea made a proposal to Japan that Korea would become a vassal state of Japan, unilaterally terminating its relation with the decling Qing Dynasty.

The Japan Times dated Wednesday, October 27, 1909 reports on
the assassination of Hrobumi Ito at Harbin Railway Station

However, Japan absolutely rejected the Korean proposal, which soon led to the outrageous violence better known as “Assassination of Prince Ito Hirobumi, a four-time Prime Minister of Japan and former Resident-General of Korea at Harbin railway station when Prince Ito was being greeted by the Russian Finance Minister Count Valdimir Kokovtsov and being saluted by the Russian Military. Prince Ito was a central figure that strongly opposed the annexation proposal, believing that Korea would rise all by itself as it experienced some civiliazation in the past.

A month later, Korea all of a sudden made a unilateral announcement to the international community that Korea would establish a new Empire by combining Japan and Korea into one on an equal basis.

Japan as one of the major powers had already occupied an important position in the international community when the equal annexation proposal was made by Korea. Japan had no choice but to accept the proposal because the international community supported the idea that Japan would modernize the savage tribal state and because of Japan’s belief in “racial equality” which Japan always had demanded the white-dominant international community to accept in those days.

Since the 1910 Japan-Korea annexation, Japan had poured an enormous amount of resources into the Korean peninsula for 35 years until Japan experienced her first defeat in 1945 (Imperial Year of Japan 2605).

Note: The recent study shows that a bullet left in Prince Ito’s body has been proved to be the bullet not fired by the pistol possessed by a terrorist An Jung-geun. It suggests the Russian involvement in the assassination of Prince Ito.
